An agreement was signed
Rune Lundin attended this analytical event as an exhibitor of instruments sold by Bergman & Beving. One week after this conference Rune and I went to Copenhagen and negotiations started with Jarda and Elo. After some discussions about the invention and about the agreements already made with other interested companies, a cooperation agreement was signed. The Bifok company was then divided into two companies and Rune Lundin kept the name Bifok for the “FIA-related part”. The other part was divested. Funds were received from STU, a Swedish governmental authority for financial support granted to selected, promising industrial R&D activities. Rune started to work full time for Bifok and Torbjörn Anfält was employed and later on several others, among them a production manager, a sales person and myself. In 1979, the reconstructed Bifok company moved into a modern industrial zone in Upplands-Väsby, a town north of Stockholm and close to Arlanda, the international airport of Stockholm. The first FIA instruments were developed, produced and marketed. The costly and elaborate work to identify and train suitable distributors in various countries did also start.
This early period of the new Bifok company left many unforgettable moments, such as hope for a bright future, profound changes of the daily life, new experiences, new friends, travels, distress, complaints about malfunctioning equipment, etc. It should be taken into account that Rune Lundin gave up his future as a successful sales manager, Torbjörn Anfält a promising academic future, and I terminated my industrial career as laboratory manager – all this for just one devotion spelled with three capitals – F I A.
